Mesa officials celebrated the groundbreaking of the city’s first new full-service library in more than a quarter-century on Saturday.
The new 28,000-square-foot Gateway Library, located near Ray and Crismon roads in the Eastmark community, will feature a collaborative workspace, maker space, digital art display wall, and an outdoor plaza for community events. The library is scheduled to open next summer.
“We are excited about having an architecturally stunning, innovative library providing a much-needed service to this part of Mesa,” said Mesa Public Library Director Polly Bonnett in a statement.
Mesa has experienced significant population growth over the past two decades, largely due to new developments in the southeastern part of the city. This expansion has created a demand for additional public services, including libraries.
The Gateway Library project is funded by the voter-approved 2018 general obligation bond and construction sales tax.
