Allegiant flight evacuated at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway

An Allegiant Airlines flight was evacuated Monday afternoon after the pilot reported a chemical smell in the cockpit, according to an Federal Aviation Administration official.

Ian Gregor, spokesman for the FAA Pacific Region, said flight 142 was taxiing out for a 1:30 p .m. departure at Mesa-Gateway Airport when the pilot decided to evacuated the aircraft after reporting a smell in the cockpit.

Justin Ralenkotter, spokesman for Allegiant, said the flight was bound for Wichita, Kansas, and had 162 passengers onboard and 6 crew members.

Allegiant said passengers evacuated the aircraft using emergency slides. Ralenkotter said six passengers reported minor injuries and were treated by paramedics.

Each passenger has been offered a refund on their trip, as well as a $100 voucher. Passengers were scheduled to depart on a new aircraft at 4 p.m.

Allegiant said its Internal Operations Team will be investigating the cause of the incident.

The FAA is investigating.
