Desert Ridge (7-1) remains ranked #2 ahead of Hamilton (6-2), Westview (8-0), and Chandler (6-2). The #1 ranking stays with Mountain Pointe, who has a bye this week.
In their game versus Red Mountain last week, the Jaguars allowed only one touchdown, winning 17-7 at Red Mountain. The game was decidedly defensive, with four interceptions of Red Mountain quarterback Caleb Murray-Thomas. While the Red Mountain Lions held a lead through most of the first half, the first half ended at 7-7. Desert Ridge took charge of the second half, shutting out the Lions and putting an additional 10 points on the board.
Coach Hathcock noted the low offensive totals, with only 235 yards for a normally heavily offensive team. “Offensively we were about as sluggish as you can get,” Hathcock said. “Flat-out, it was a defensive, ugly win. I love it.”
The Jags meet up with Desert Mountain at home Friday night, and play an away game with Mountain View on November 1 to finish off the regular season.
