Mesa’s reputation as a hub for advanced technology received a significant boost this week with the opening of a new semiconductor materials manufacturing facility in east Mesa. JX Advanced Metals USA, Inc. (JX USA), formerly known as JX Nippon Mining & Metals USA, celebrated the grand opening of its state-of-the-art plant at Germann and Crismon Roads, southeast of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
The facility will produce sputtering targets—key components in semiconductor manufacturing—for customers across North America and Europe. Currently undergoing test production, full-scale operations are set to begin in early 2025.
“Today’s opening marks an exciting milestone for JX Advanced Metals USA, Inc. as we extend our commitment to Mesa and the advanced materials industry,” said Takeshi Suwabe, executive officer and general manager of JX Advanced Metals Corporation’s Thin Film Materials Division. “Our new Mesa facility will not only drive growth in semiconductor materials production but also serve as the center of JX USA’s business in the U.S.”
The grand opening ceremony drew notable city leaders, including Mesa Mayor John Giles and Councilmember Scott Somers. In his remarks, Mayor Giles emphasized the significance of the development: “JX USA’s choice to make Mesa their manufacturing base reaffirms our city’s appeal as a hub for innovation and advanced technology. We are honored to support this remarkable company as it grows and contributes to the industry and local economy.”
The 273,000-square-foot facility features extensive production areas, office spaces, welfare facilities, and even a garden, reflecting the company’s commitment to both functionality and employee well-being. JX USA, which has been a part of the East Valley community for 30 years, now employs more than 125 people and is poised for further growth.
This expansion not only strengthens Mesa’s economic landscape but also solidifies its role in the global semiconductor supply chain, enhancing opportunities for local job seekers and reinforcing the city’s status as a leading center for advanced manufacturing.
