A major new data center campus planned for Mesa is continuing to move through the approval process, signaling another significant technology investment for the East Valley.
According to a recent report from the Phoenix Business Journal, Mesa’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously on May 13 to recommend approval for a large-scale data center project proposed by Tokyo-based NTT Data Group. The project would bring a multi-building technology campus to the city’s growing Pecos Road corridor.
The original Phoenix Business Journal article highlighted the scale of the development and the rapid growth of data center activity across the Valley as demand for digital infrastructure continues to rise.

The proposed campus is planned near 1026 E. Pecos Road in Mesa, where NTT Data Group reportedly acquired approximately 173 acres earlier this year for around $300 million. According to reporting from the Phoenix Business Journal, the company plans to build a seven-building data center campus along with a private power substation and additional utility infrastructure.
Mesa officials continue to see increased interest from technology and infrastructure companies looking to expand in the region. The city’s strategic location, access to power resources, and expanding industrial corridors have helped position Mesa as a growing hub for advanced technology projects and large-scale employment centers.

According to the report, NTT requested several zoning-related modifications tied to the project, including adjustments to parking requirements and approvals connected to utility infrastructure for the campus. The development is expected to total more than 2.2 million square feet once completed.

The project also arrives during a period of growing discussion surrounding large data center developments across Arizona. Similar projects in Mesa, Chandler, and other Valley cities have generated public conversations regarding infrastructure demands, water usage, energy consumption, and long-term economic impact.

Despite increasing public scrutiny surrounding some large technology developments, Mesa’s Planning and Zoning Commission reportedly approved the recommendation quickly and without significant opposition during the May meeting.
