500 Jobs Coming to SE Mesa with Single Passenger Electric Car Factory

ElectraMeccanica Vehicles Corp, a designer and manufacturer of electric vehicles, announced today that it has chosen Southeast Mesa as the location for its U.S. assembly facility and engineering technical center.

The Company’s selection concludes a year-long site search by ElectraMeccanica and its partner, BDO USA’s Site Selection & Incentives Practice (“BDO”). The Company has been conducting a nationwide search for potential sites since February 2020 that would meet their technical and workforce requirements. The 235,000 square foot building will be constructed west of the southwest corner of Ray Road and Hawes Road.

Mayor John Giles said, “We’re happy to join the list of communities manufacturing electric vehicles! ElectraMeccanica announced today that its first U.S. facility will be located in southeast Mesa, bringing 500 new jobs and producing up to 20,000 of its SOLO vehicle each year.”

He added, “Southeast Mesa is growing, and we’re excited to welcome dynamic and innovative businesses like ElectraMeccanica.”

Councilmember Kevin Thompson said, “I’m always talking about how District 6 and the Gateway area are great locations for businesses to expand or re-locate to. That is why I could not be more excited to welcome ElectraMeccanica Vehicles Corp. to District 6. They have just announced that Mesa will be the home of their new U.S.-based assembly facility and engineering technical center.”

The SOLO is a three-wheeled, all-electric vehicle designed specifically for urban use. It is designed for a single occupant and provides a one-of-a-kind driving experience for the environmentally conscious consumer. The SOLO has a 100-mile range and a top speed of 80 mph, making it suitable for highway use.
