To celebrate the grand opening of Mesa Fire Station 221 in Eastmark, the City of Mesa and the Mesa Fire and Medical Department will host a Community Open House on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The public will get the opportunity to tour the new fire station, located at 9320 E. Point Twenty-Two Blvd.; enjoy a complimentary breakfast prepared by Mesa firefighters and learn more about city services from several City of Mesa departments. The Community Open House will follow a fire hose uncoupling ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 18, to officially mark the opening of Fire Station 221.

“I’m excited for Mesa residents to have the opportunity to visit our newest fire station, which will help meet our needs as the City of Mesa continues to grow,” said Mayor John Giles. “I want to thank the voters who approved a ballot measure to make Fire Station 221 a reality.”

Funding for the $5.9 million project is from a 2018 public safety bond approved by Mesa voters. The developer agrees to transfer the land to the City as part of the original Eastmark development agreement.

“Fire Station 221 has been a much needed addition in southeast Mesa where development has skyrocketed over the past few years. As southwest Mesa continues to grow, the new station, and the professionals that call it home,  will play an even more vital role in keeping the community safe. It is a state-of-the-art facility that Eastmark residents are happy to have in their community,” said Councilmember Kevin Thompson.

The new fire station includes four apparatus bays, eight dormitories, two offices, a kitchen, dining room, conditioning room and a community room. It will also be home to the nation’s first-of-its-kind all-electric pumper truck.

“As southeast Mesa keeps gaining population, emergency call volumes will continue to increase. The addition of Station 221 will help address those needs and reduce response times in Eastmark and surrounding communities, especially for medical runs,” said Mesa Fire Chief Mary Cameli.

Along with the open house, Mesa Fire and Medical Department invites the media to attend a fire hose uncoupling ceremony Thursday, Nov. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Mayor Giles, Councilmember Thompson, City Manager Chris Brady and Assistant Fire Chief John Locklin will be among the speakers at the event. The speakers will be available for interviews and media members will be able to tour the new fire station.
