The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has launched planning for Phase II improvements to State Route 24 (SR 24) between Loop 202 and Ironwood Drive. This major infrastructure project is designed to enhance traffic flow, improve safety, and reduce noise impacts for nearby communities.

Key elements under consideration in response to community feedback and collaboration with Mesa Transportation include:
✅ Restriping the SR 24 to Loop 202 Northbound Interchange to allow two travel lanes.
✅ Adding an outside general-purpose lane on northbound Loop 202 between SR 24 and Guadalupe Road.
✅ Constructing new sound walls and screen walls to help minimize roadway noise for surrounding neighborhoods.
These upgrades aim to support growing transportation needs in the East Valley, improve commute times, and enhance quality of life for nearby residents. The project is funded through the voter-approved Proposition 479, which supports long-term transportation infrastructure investments across the region.
Construction is scheduled to begin in Fall 2026 and is expected to take approximately 28 months to complete. Additional updates, including the finalized scope of work, will be shared as the project moves forward.
