Drivers in the Southeast Valley should prepare for traffic changes as a major roadway improvement project starts on Ellsworth Road next month.
New Lane Restrictions Take Effect January 5

Starting Monday, January 5, 2026, a 24‑hour northbound single‑lane restriction will be put in place on Ellsworth Road between Germann Road and Pecos Road to support ongoing road widening efforts.
This restriction will remain in effect around the clock while construction on this segment continues, expected to last through mid‑to‑late February 2026. Crews will then move northward to work on the next segment of northbound widening along Ellsworth.

Southbound Lanes Stay Open
During this phase of work, southbound traffic on Ellsworth Road is not expected to be impacted. Only the northbound direction will be reduced to one travel lane to safely accommodate construction activities.
About the Widening Project
This restriction is part of a larger multi‑phase project led by the City of Mesa to widen Ellsworth Road to improve traffic flow and capacity as the Southeast Valley continues to grow. The effort includes expanding travel lanes, updating signals, and adding infrastructure improvements to support current and future traffic needs.
Drivers should anticipate slower travel times and temporary delays through the work zone and plan ahead for alternate routes or extra travel time during peak hours.
