Unofficial election returns showed both City of Mesa bond requests passing by more than 55% of the vote, approving a total of $130.8 million in bonds for public safety and infrastructure projects across the city. The bonds will support a new Fire communications center, a new Police helicopter, improvements to the city jail, and major improvements on Mesa Drive and Southern Avenue.
Supporters of budget overrides for Gilbert Schools and Queen Creek Schools came away disappointed, however. Gilbert Public Schools seem to have fallen short of a successful override attempt by about 1,000 votes. Queen Creek USD fell short by about 200 votes, with an unofficial tally of 55%-45%.
