Figueroa Green, a park in Eastmark located at Signal Butte and Ray, was dedicated Saturday morning in memory of Phoenix Police Officer Shane Cory Figueroa, who was killed in the line of duty October 25, 2008.
Officer Shane Figueroa was a Mesa native who was responding to a shots fired call when a truck driven by a drunk driver turned in front of his patrol car, killing Officer Figueroa. He left behind his wife and their 3 month old daughter.
More than 100 family, friends, and fellow officers from Phoenix and Mesa came out for the dedication ceremony and a moment of silence to honor Officer Figueroa and his family. His family lives in Mesa and he has a brother serving as an officer for Mesa Police Department
