A mixed use development is slated for Signal Butte and the 24, with multifamily housing, auto dealerships, and a Walmart-anchored retail development.
The land, owned by the Berge family, a large auto dealer throughout the Valley, sits on either side of Signal Butte just north of State Route 24.
On June 17, Mesa City Council unanimously approved three measures, which included a develpment resolution, a retail tax incentive, and a land rezoning, allowing the Berge Destination at Gateway development project to move forward.
In addition to the auto dealerships on this site, a Hyundai dealership is slated for Pecos and Signal Butte, just south of the freeway.
Traffic design has traffic signals being added at both Signal Butte and Mountain for access to the auto mall and the Walmart and retail development.
The retail development has about ten pads for shops and restaurants, as well as space for larger retailers. There is also space for a gas station.
The Walmart will be centrally located for the residents of Eastmark, the new Superstition Vistas communities of Radiance and Blossom Rock, and Queen Creek neighborhoods like Barney Farms and Ironwood crossing just to the south.
