The massive 1.2 million square foot warehouse being finished just west of the Elliot exits off the 202 was originally planned as two separate buildings, but after Amazon expressed interest early in the planning process, the developer changed the plans to build it as one massive warehouse to suit the needs of the online retailer. The warehouse will be used as a last mile logistics center.
Amazon will be leasing the property from its new owner, the California State Teachers Retirement System, one of the largest pension funds in the country. The sale by Marwest Enterprises to CSTRS is one of the largest real estate transactions in Arizona this year at a whopping $167 million.
This is not the only massive lease in Southeast Mesa. Lowes committed in January to lease 1.2 million square feet at the new development The Cubes as a new warehouse location. The Cubes is being built between Pecos and Germann just east of Crismon. The Cubes is a 268 acre build-to-suit space with the potential of 4 million square feet of space being developed by CRG.
“The Cubes will be a tremendous addition to southeast Mesa and the region, providing more jobs and more business development opportunities in the fastest growing part of the east valley,” said Kevin Thompson, District 6 Councilmember.
