The Mesa Police Department is hosting the Mesa PD Grand Prix, a community engagement event scheduled for March 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Golfland Sunsplash. The free event invites residents, families, and children to race go-karts alongside police officers while enjoying a morning focused on fun, connection, and community building.

According to the city’s event listing, the event—sometimes referred to as “Race the Badge”—encourages residents to meet officers from the department’s Fiesta District while participating in friendly races and activities.

Building Connections Outside of Emergency Calls

The Mesa PD Grand Prix is designed to help officers and residents interact in a relaxed environment outside of typical emergency situations. Community engagement events like this give families the chance to meet local officers, ask questions, and build trust while enjoying a shared experience.

Police departments across the country increasingly host similar events to strengthen relationships between officers and the communities they serve, creating opportunities for positive interactions that don’t revolve around enforcement.

By racing go-karts together and participating in a family-friendly setting, Mesa officers hope to create memorable moments while reinforcing a sense of partnership with residents.

A Fun Venue for Families

Hosting the event at Golfland Sunsplash adds to the excitement for families attending.

The Mesa attraction is widely known as one of the region’s top family entertainment destinations, offering more than 30 rides and attractions including miniature golf, laser tag, bumper cars, arcade games, and its popular go-kart raceway.

The facility also features a seasonal water park with slides, wave pools, and other aquatic attractions, making it a well-known entertainment hub in the East Valley.

While the Grand Prix event centers around go-kart racing, attendees can expect a lively environment that highlights the venue’s reputation as a place where families gather for recreation, celebrations, and group events throughout the year.

A Spring Break Community Event

The event was intentionally scheduled during Mesa Public Schools’ spring break, making it easier for families to attend while school is out.

Organizers say residents are welcome to participate in the races, stop by to support the event, or bring their children for a morning of community fun.

Events like the Mesa PD Grand Prix are part of a broader effort by the police department to engage with residents in meaningful ways that go beyond routine calls for service.

By combining friendly competition with community outreach, the department hopes to create a positive and memorable experience for families across the city.
