To show community appreciation for the sacrifices of police officers and firefighters, Mesa Public Library is hosting National Day of Service: Cards of Appreciation for First Responders. The event calls on residents to use their artistic skills to design cards or write heartfelt notes to first responders.

Mesa invites people of all ages to drop by THINKspot, at the Main Library, 64 E. First St., on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Craft supplies will be provided free of charge. If you can’t attend, you can make cards at home and donate them at the front desk of the Main Library by Sept. 7. Library hours for the next week are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; closed Sunday and closed Monday for Labor Day. Library volunteers will deliver the cards to first responders at police and fire stations throughout Mesa before 9/11.
