Fire Departments throughout the valley, including Mesa Fire/Medical Department, are urging residents to dispose of their Christmas trees as soon as possible in an effort to stem house fires caused by the dry tree material in the home.

Mesa Fire/Medical held a demonstration Tuesday morning showcasing how quickly a Christmas tree will explode in flames. It takes about 30 seconds for a dried tree to become englufed in flames.

Mesa residents can drop their Christmas tree off for free at the Superstition Substation at the corner of Medina and Ellsworth, between Guadalupe and Baseline.
