Facebook recently announced its launching of a nationwide construction job training program called “Hardhat in Hand” at its data center construction sites across the country.
They have recently declared that they will be building a 960,000 sq. ft. data center in Mesa in August and in-line to this they will also be creating the construction job training program on the Mesa site.
This will help fill with the demand for skilled labor workers since Arizona had been increasing in developmental projects and expanded a remarkable 21.2% in 2020 according to Cumming, a national project management and cost consulting firm.
David Williams, community development manager at Facebook said, “Hardhat in Hand is one of our efforts to invest in communities we are a part of. It is our attempt to address a key need – lack of skilled workers in the construction industry that Arizona and other states are facing.”
He also added, “The goal of the program is to expand the local skill trades talent pipeline, increase diversity in the construction industry and provide a path to reliable well-paid job opportunities.”
Facebook is partnering with DPR construction, the general contractor on the data center project, to create the program and staffing.
This 8-week training will get students prepared for entry-level careers in construction. Once they complete the program, they may be eligible for full-time employment in a wide variety of fields in construction such as carpentry, electrical, concrete and many more.
The Hardhat in Hand training program is expected to be begin by the end of 2022.
